Kendrick Lamar – God Is Gangsta (Video)

By BiscayneHipHop

By Uptown Toney

Ending his incredible 11 time GRAMMY nominated year with a short film is TDE’s Kendrick Lamar presenting “God is Gangsta.” The title – more than likely taken from “The Story of Gangstalicious” episode of Aaron McGruder’s animated sitcom, The Boondocks, – combines K. Dot’s To Pimp a Butterfly tracks “u” and “For Sale? Interlude” for a seven-minute visual.

On the first half of this powerful double visual, directors Jack Begert and the little homies capture Kendrick alone drowning his sorrows in some liquor performing his emotionally charged album track, “u.” As the visual progresses there’s a baptism and the track “For Sale?” kicks into play. The little homies stay on point as director PANAMÆRA films the emcee out in Paris at Le Silencio surrounded by temptation as messages flash throughout the scene.

Check out the visual above to see how this one ends. Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly LP is available now in stores and on iTunes.

Ikenna – M.A.A.T.

By BiscayneHipHop

By Uptown Toney

In an age where most of the rap music that’s being fed to the consumers is very dark, heavy and Trap inspired, it’s a blessing to come across light hearted and chill records like “M.A.A.T (Money Ain’t A Thang)” by Ikenna. As smooth as Kenya Moore whipping in the video for Jermaine Dupri & JAY-Z’s 1998 song of the same name, the Jersey-native charismatically approaches the shimmering, minimal boom-bap fueled beat by Brain Ochestra.

Acutely reminiscent of music created by a suave West Coast player by the name of Dom Kennedy, Ikenna’s “M.A.A.T” is an easy to listen to single full of crafty wordplay with an East Coast bounce that’ll make you nod you head as he tells tales of money making mission but at the end of the day, it’s always Love.Over.Everything.

“At the time I was creating it, I was experiencing a lot different shit from homies dying to losing my job to a lot of ish. NEVERTHELESS, I forgot to keep telling the story. Tho, this song is only 4 mins, it took me almost 4 months to honestly get it where I wanted and then I probably spent another 4 jus listening & enjoying the fruits of my labor. on some lowkey selfish shit & I’m sorry for that,” says explains the emcee via Tumblr.

Hit play on the record above. For more from Ikenna check his most recent project, 92N’Me.

Myself & Others – Advent Calendar 2015 (Mixtape)

By BiscayneHipHop

By Uptown Toney

At the tail end of 2014, Myself and others launched Advent Calendar, an incredible mixtape of smooth R&B and Future Beats style gems crafted by the likes of Abhi//Dijon, SoftGlas, Sango, Ta-Ku, Fortune and many more, and it’s been one of my favorite listens since its release. With significantly less tracks but an equal amount of vibes, M&O returns this year with the latest addition of Advent Calendar, now featuring new music by Masego, Ambré, Weird Inside and a few others.

A few standouts on the project come from the likes of Dave B who provides a slapper with “Yes,” melodically flowing over the minimal production on the projects closing number. Another favorite is from producers Lege Kale who links with singer Mars Today for some smooth holiday vibes on “Seasons,” and Ambré’s chilling slow grinder “Coldest Winter.”

As you wrap-up 2015, stream M&O’s playlist in its entirety, below.
